North Clackamas presents controversial cost-cutting measures to school board

On the heels of three community meetings announcing potential school closures and consolidations, the North Clackamas School District are presenting a package of major changes, which includes operating fewer elementary schools, hiking fees, and changing schedules next year.

The superintendent and district administrators insist the changes are necessary to help bring extra revenue and efficiently spread out a workforce that has lost the equivalent of more than 220 positions since 2008-09. Superintendent Tim Mills says the district must reduce more than 150 positions next year to counter a budget shortfall of about $10 million to $15 million next year.

School board members will vote on the measures in March.
