Sofia Vergara brings the laughs in "Modern Family," and now she's on the verge of going comedy old school.
Variety reports that Vergara is in talks for a starring role in the Farrelly Brothers' big screen remake/adaptation of "The Three Stooges." According to The Hollywood Reporter, she's expected to soon be handed the offer to play "a devious woman who pretends to be the wife of a dying man and tells the Stooges she'll pay them a handsome sum if they kill the man in his sleep."
Vergara is in discussions to join a cast that already includes Will Sasso as Curly and Sean Hayes as Larry. The film, which has been stuck in development for years, has seen a long line of casting rumors and changes. It was originally slated to star Brad Pitt, Jim Carrey and Benicio del Toro, though that eventually fell apart. Then Andy Samberg and Johnny Knoxville were rumored to be up for roles, but that eventually ended up passing, as well.
The "Modern Family" star will have two turns on the big screen in 2011, starring in the live action/CGI hybrid, "The Smurfs," as well as the star-studded romantic comedy, "New Year's Eve."
Most recently, Vergara, the new face of Diet Pepsi Skinny, has been spotted filming beach-set commercials for the brand.
